Fatty Liver Disease (FLD)
Fatty Liver Disease is a term that describes the buildup of fat in liver or Steatosis. Fatty liver is reversible condition that can be resolved with changed behaviors. Liver process everything we eat or drink and filter any harmful substances from blood. Generally liver always maintain and recover a new cell after damage old cell. But if this process occurs repeatedly then it takes place permanently and it’s called Cirrhosis.
Symptoms:
Excess fat can cause liver inflammation. If your liver becomes inflamed, you may have a poor appetite, weight loss, abdominal, weakness and confusion.
Cause of Fatty Liver:
Fatty liver occurs when more fat build or liver cannot metabolize fat content. Alcoholism is common cause of Fatty liver. Other factors are:
Obesity
High level of fat in blood
Diabetes
Genetic Inheritance
Rapid weight Loss
Types of Fatty Liver:
There are four types of Fatty Liver.
- Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver (NAFL): NAFL develops when the liver has difficulty in breaking fats, which causes a buildup in the liver tissue. It’s not to relate to alcohol. NAFL is diagnosed when more than 10% of the liver is fatty.
- Alcoholic Fatty Liver (AFL):
AFL is a first stage of alcohol related liver disease. It excessive uses continue may develop Cirrhosis.
- Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH): When fat build enough up, it will cause the liver to swell. If the original cause is not from alcohol, it’s called NASH. This disease can impair liver function. Symptoms can be seen with this disease are:
Appetite loss
Nausea
Vomiting
Abdominal pain
Yellow of the skin (Jaundice)
- Acute Fatty Liver Of Pregnancy:
A rare complication of pregnancy that can be life threatening. Symptoms begin in the third trimester.
Persistent Nausea and Vomiting
Pain in the upper right abdomen
Jaundice
General Malaise
Risk for Fatty Liver:
Fatty liver is the buildup of extra fat in the liver. It’s more likely to develop if you are overweight or obese. Having type 2 diabetes also may increase your risk for fatty liver. Fat accumulation in the liver has been linked to insulin resistance which is the most common cause of type 2 diabetes. Other factor increase risk of fatty liver.

Fatty Liver Diagnosed:

Fatty Liver Grade 1:
It’s a initial stages of fatty liver development is level as Grade 1. In this stage fat accumulate only the outer surface of organ which is not interface with the function of the liver at all.
Fatty Liver Grade 2:
It’s a severe condition of fatty liver which occurs after Grade 1. It occurs under bad lifestyle and unhealthy foods.
Fatty Liver Treated:
There is not any medication or surgery to treat Fatty liver. Recommendations are:
- Limiting or avoiding alcoholic beverages.
- Managing your cholesterol
- Losing weight
- Controlling your blood sugar.
If you have fatty liver because of obesity or unhealthy eating habits, you have to increase physical activity and eliminate certain types of food from your diet. Reducing the number of calorie you each day can help you lose weight and heal your liver.
It’s also reduce or eliminating fatty food and foods high in sugar from your diet. Choose healthier fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Replace red meat with lean animal protein like chicken and fish.

- Refined carbohydrates like white rice, white bread, noodles and pasta.
- Deep fried sweeteners, meat especially red meats.
- Dairy rich product like cheese, butter, margarine, ice-cream and Yoghurt.
- Artificial Sweeteners.

- Whole grains, Brown rice, Brown bread, Oats
- Organic fruits & vegetables rich in fibers.
- Regular cooking oil with Omega-3.
